The best varieties of Calluna vulgaris that I have selected for late flowering are always offered under the trademark Gardengirls®.

These are all so called bud-bloomers, that bud up as normal but the flowers do not open resulting in a long "flowering" time from late summer to early winter. The buds can resist severe weather in the late autumn and even endure frost as low as -10°C without damage.

All varieties are protected through the German or EU Plant Breeders' Rights. They are produced and distributed by licenced nurseries. The plants of these varieties exhibit the trademark Gardengirls® and the variety name.

The Gardengirls® are available in September and October in almost every florist and garden centre.

The many good qualities these varieties have make them especially suitable for autumnal decoration in tubs, bowls and window-boxes.

Some of the best varieties with photos are described below:

Gardengirl 'Alicia' 'Alicia'
has white buds from September until November. The buds are larger than normal and combined with the light-green foliage, the buds seem to glow even brighter. The habit is compact and erect.
Gardengirl 'Melanie' 'Melanie'
also has white buds from September until November but the habit is more open and spreading. The delicate buds contrast well against the green foliage.
Gardengirl 'Helena' 'Helena'
Bright white and big buds like the variety 'Alicia'. The buds develop a little bit later than the variety 'Alicia', but 'Helena' is longer pretty than 'Alicia'.
Gardengirl 'Klaudine' 'Klaudine'
